Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints accept the Holy Bible as the word of God. It is sacred scripture. Christians the world over seek guidance from this great book because of its testimony or testament of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Old Testament speaks of His dealings with mankind and His future mission on Earth. The New Testament speaks of His earthly ministry and testifies of the perfect life He led, His atoning sacrifice, His death, and Resurrection.
However, Latter-day Saints have another testament of Jesus Christ which they accept as scripture. It is The Book of Mormon. Just like the Bible, it was written by ancient prophets who testified of Jesus Christ as God, Savior, Redeemer, and Judge. It is the testimony of the tribe of Joseph which supports and complements the testimony of the tribe of Judah contained in the Bible.
So why is it important? I offer just one example at this time. The link below is a video recording of President Thomas S. Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, speaking of how the Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ and answers an important question of, “Where does the spirit of man go when one dies?”
